Commodore 64 Power Safe - 5 Volt Protection - e-fuse based over voltage pcb - Assembly and Testing.

Published 12 Nov 2023

In this video i am assembling a Commodore 64 Power Safe 5 Volt Protection Board that uses an e-fuse to protect the C64's 5 volt input from faulty original power supplies/bricks that have gone over-voltage - The C64 Power Safe is a 5 volt e-fuse intelligent protected load switch with over-voltage clamping and over-current protection with up to 2.5 amp continuous load current. In the event that a voltage higher than 5.4 volts is applied to the 5 volt input, the e-fuse will clamp the voltage to no higher than 5.4 volts via an internal mosfet protecting from over-voltage within 0.6 micro seconds to protect the load from damage. If the input voltage exceeds 7.6 volts the device disconnects the load to prevent damage - over 5.6 - 6.0 volts on the 5 volt line will damage and kill the RAM, CPU and other precious chips on the C64 motherboard.
