The number of new home builds has fallen to its lowest level in a decade, underlining the scale of the challenge to meet Australia's target of 1.2 million over five years. Chief executive of Master Builders Australia Denita Wawn says the target isn't unrealistic but getting there will be highly contingent on the "right environment" to deliver it. She expects construction activity to pick up at the end of 2024/2025. The latest figures from the ABS show nearly 41,000 builds began during the June quarter, a fall of 11.8 per cent from the three months to March.
