The restoration is nearing completion...finally. A few more little jobs and she will be ready. Was hoping to do a few classic car shows this year but the virus has put paid to that. Volvo was scrambling about in the mid 1970's desperately looking for a collaboration or to buy into another manufacturer as they needed a small car for their range. Too broke to start a new design from scratch, they bought the Dutch DAF cars as a ready made solution. DAF had already started to design a new car to replace the 66. The DAF 77 was almost ready when Volvo bought the company. They quickly rebadged the old DAF 66 into the Volvo 66 and added a beefier bumper and new seats, whilst the prototype DAF 77 turned into the Volvo 340. The quirky DAF, with its variomatic gearbox was always more popular on the Continent and was a fairly rare sight on UK roads. The Volvo 66 was even rarer. There are currently about 6 left registered in the UK. It has the aerodynamics of a breeze block! Looks very Trabant-esque...I like it anyway. The antithesis of modern motoring. When did you last see one?
